PURA PICKLEBALL RETREATS

By joining our retreat, you’ll not only explore the stunning beauty of Costa Rica and enjoy exciting adventure activities
— you’ll also become part of our vibrant local pickleball community.

7 Reasons Why Pura Pickleball Retreats Are Different

1. Pickleball Is What We Do

We’re not just a resort that added a few courts—we are a pickleball club first and foremost.
Owned and operated as a dedicated pickleball community, we run leagues, tournaments, lessons,
and social events year-round. When you come here, you’re stepping into a place where pickleball
is the heartbeat of everything.

  1. A Welcoming Community

Our members are the soul of Pura Pickleball.
You’ll quickly make friends on and off the court — many of whom turn into lifelong connections. The atmosphere here is social, supportive, and full of energy.
You’ll participate in our tournaments, play with our members during open play, and enjoy a wide variety of social events and fun activities together.
  1. Authentic Local Connections

Because we’re rooted here, we can offer you more than just a trip—we give you access to Costa Rica through the eyes of a local, while still providing all the conveniences and comforts you’d expect.

Plus, as the owner is originally from Canada, we fully understand the needs and wants of our North American clientele, ensuring your retreat feels both authentic and effortless.

  1. The Perfect Location: Jacó, Costa Rica

Play surrounded by paradise. Our club is perfectly situated between the Pacific Ocean on one side and the lush Costa Rican jungle on the other. With a wide variety of tours and excursions available within just 20 minutes, you’ll experience adventure both on and off the court.

5. Flexible Retreat Options

Not everyone travels the same way, so we’ve designed different retreat packages.

  • Budget-friendly options
  • Standard packages
  • Fully customizable retreats

Living and working here in Costa Rica means we’ve built trusted partnerships with hotels, transportation services, and tour operators, giving you the best experiences at the best value.

6. A Facility Designed for Pickleball

We built this place with players in mind. From brand-new courts to an on-site restaurant and bar, to convenient amenities like showers and lockers, everything is designed to make your pickleball retreat easy, fun, and comfortable.

7. We Don’t Compromise

Our mission is simple: to give you the best pickleball retreat possible. That means no shortcuts, no cookie-cutter trips—just top-quality courts, service, and experiences designed around you and your love of the game.

•Most travelers from North America and Europe don’t need a visa for stays up to 90 days. A valid passport with at least one blank page is required.

Q: What airport should I fly into?
•Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José is the closest major airport, about 90 minutes from Jaco.

Q: How do I get from the airport to Jaco?
•Options include private shuttles, group transfers we can arrange, rental cars, or taxis. Driving is straightforward, but shuttles are most stress-free.

Q: What currency is used in Costa Rica?
•The local currency is the Costa Rican colón (CRC). U.S. dollars are widely accepted in Jaco, but bring some colones for small shops or tips. Credit cards are also widely used.

Q: What should I pack for pickleball and leisure?
•Pickleball gear: paddle, shoes (non-marking court shoes), extra balls.
•Lightweight, breathable clothing (it’s hot and humid).
•Swimwear, flip-flops, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen.
•A light rain jacket—October especially can bring afternoon showers.
•Insect repellent.
•Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

Q: What about electricity and chargers?
•Costa Rica uses the same voltage and plugs as the U.S. (110V, type A/B outlets). Travelers from Europe will need adapters.

Q: Is it safe to travel in Jaco?
•Jaco is a popular beach town with lots of visitors. As with any tourist area, use common sense: don’t leave valuables unattended, use ATMs in secure locations, and be aware at night.

Q: What’s the weather like?
•Jaco is warm year-round, averaging 75–90°F (24–32°C). The dry season runs December–April; rainy season is May–November with short but intense showers, usually in the afternoon.

Q: Do I need travel insurance?
•We strongly recommend it, especially to cover medical emergencies, trip delays, or lost baggage.

Q: What about medical care and vaccinations?
•No special vaccinations are required. Basic healthcare is readily available in Jaco and San José. Bring personal medications, as pharmacies may not stock identical brands.

Q: Is the water safe to drink?
•Tap water in most of Costa Rica, including Jaco, is generally safe. Some travelers prefer bottled or filtered water if they have sensitive stomachs.
